Konshens

Born Garfield Delano Spence – Konshens is well on route to becoming a musical powerhouse, earning his spot in the hearts of music lovers worldwide. His entrance onto the reggae/dancehall scene is quickly becoming a distant memory, as he is already being dubbed “the new face of reggae/dancehall music” by many. His talent can be highlighted through the various awards and nominations he has received, including: the EME (Excellence in Music) award’s “Best New Artist 08”, the Stone Love award’s “Best New Artist 08”, several nominations in the International Reggae and World Music Awards (“IRAWMA”), HYPE TV and Reggae Entertainment Television (RETV) awards including Song of the Year for his debut single “Winner” – the only new artiste to have a nomination for this award.
Konshens’ musical career started in early 2005 when he and his brother Delus created the duo SOJAH. The brothers searched for the means to manifest their musical calling and were eventually directed to Cash Flow Studios.  They recorded a string of demos and stumbled upon what would be the track to jumpstart their career, “Pon Di Corner”.  The single became an instant hit upon its arrival into the Japanese market. It was #1 on the charts (WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF THE CHARTS YOU ARE REFERING TO) for most of 2005 and to this day is still receiving air play. This prompted a one month tour in Japan in 2005 and an encore tour in 2006 followed by the release of an album exclusive to Japan the same year. Since then SOJAH has released an album in Europe and toured extensively there making stops in Austria, Germany, France, Finland, Czech Republic among many other countries.
Although their international success has been rewarding, the brothers still longed for notoriety in Jamaica. The duo ultimately decided that the best course of action would be to continue making music as SOJAH and pursue individual careers simultaneously. When asked in an interview why they decided to pursue individual careers, Konshens said “To spread out the attack…we can’t just try to force our self onto people. We have to space it out and take time to move in”.
With the release of Konshens’ debut single “Winner”, success began to materialize. The track caught the reggae/dancehall scene off guard with its message of hard work, drive and a hustling mentality. Its timing was impeccable as the world was in the midst of a financial crisis. It was an instant hit.
Winner was follow-up by hits including “Rasta Imposter”, “This Means Money” and “Good Girl Gone Bad” with Tarrus Riley.  Konshens has performed at shows such as, Regge Sumfest, Rebel Salute, Irie Jamboree in New York and Reggae on the Hill in Barbados. Konshens insists that he’ll be taking it one step at a time until his name and work is cemented in history.
