Sahra Indio

Sahra Indio is a reggae artist born in Philadelphia, PA but, now residing on the Big Island of Hawaii. She is a singer/songwriter. Her musical career began in The Jahringa Reggae Band in Hawaii in 1993.

In 1999 Sahra aka Bush Mama was offered an opportunity to perform at Sunset Live in Kyushu, Japan one year after Jahringa had disbanded. Sahra, was encouraged by the promoter to try a solo career. She recorded her first promotional album Osah Sista just for the Japanese venue. Upon her return she started performing as Sahra Indio. Sahra relocated to O’ahu where she worked with local reggae bands such as Ooklah the Moc, THC, and Isouljahs to name a few. She has shared the stage with Midnite, Dezarie, Pato Banton, Mykal Rose, Alpha Blondy, Bambu Station, Luciano and more.

Sahra’s first solo album is entitled, Good’s Gonna Happen, Olumeye Records (2003), the title cut placed first in Best Reggae (Unisong International) and is Sahra Indio’s signature song. It beckons the broken hearted to not give up it states that true love can come into ones life again. Tuff Lion, veteran reggae guitarist produced her sophomore album Change (2007) with the track Jah Fire appearing on several reggae compilations.

Sahra Indio next album True I, her third full-length album scheduled for release Spring 2012.  The single Humanity is scheduled for release online by the end of this month, and will give Bush Mama’s fans a preview of what’s to come!

Sahra Indio’s hits include “ Bush Mama”, “Jah Fire”, “Ital Medi” and “At the Awa Bar”. Sahra Indio has established her own record label, Olumeye Records (which is a Yoruba Deity, her name means “One Who Knows Honor”) and Sahra states that Olumeye is her example of living a good life that encourages the community. Bob Fest Ag Fair an agricultural event that Sahra Indio has teamed up with Keep It Green Hawaii to present the 4th annual Bob Fest Ag Fair in February, with a free concert in the park that includes Bambu Station and guests plus an agricultural fair.
