On July 1, 1863, slavery was abolished in Suriname and the former Netherlands Antilles. In 1873, the last enslaved people were set free. July 1 is the national commemoration and celebration of the abolition of slavery, Keti Koti. In this annual festival 10s of thousands of people come together to celebrate and to enjoy culture and music. This year we could witness performances by Stanley Clementina & C-Shaw, Amartey from Ghana, and the bad boys of Reggae Inner Circle.
