Bands Wanted: Dread & Alive!

Within the framework of the Benelux Reggae Contest, Reggae Geel, M-Town Reggae & European Reggae Contest, along with their partners, are once again looking for reggae and dancehall talent from the Benelux. Dread, because they are looking for a band that is able to raise the admiration of an audience. Alive, because it’s a contest for bands who are able to perform their own original songs live in a convincing and vital way.

Based on online voting and an assessment of the bands by a professional jury, three bands will be selected and invited to participate in the live final. This is played on Friday, April 15, in the Muziekgieterij in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Here the three bands will compete for a fairly extensive prize package.

Besides a performance at Rastaplas Festival (Zoetermeer – the Netherlands) and a professional representation (for one year) by the Brussels based Skinfama agency, the winner also gets an extensive presentation at the reggae.be website and the possibility of making a professional recording with Not Easy At All Productions & Clash Productions (Reggae Studio). Furthermore the winner is offered gigs at Dour Festival (Dour – Belgium), Music Club Democrazy (Ghent – Belgium), ReggaeFèr Festival (Raamsdonksveer – the Netherlands) and Future Reggae Ruigoord Festival (Amsterdam/Ruigoord – the Netherlands). Furthermore the winner will get exposure on the worldareggae.com website.

The winner also goes to the finals of the European Reggae Contest. This European final is on June 2 and takes place in the famous Club Razzmatazz in Barcelona. During that event the Rototom Sunsplash (Benicassim – Spain) organization will select several bands for their 10-day festival. The prize for the winner of the final will also include a full European tour. Thus the European winner, among others, will be appearing on the Bob Marley Birthday Bashment 2012, organized by Reggae Geel, JH De Bogaard and CC De Werft (Geel – Belgium), on Feest in het Park (Oudenaarde – België) and on the Future Reggae Ruigoord Festival.

All bands within the genres of reggae, dub, ska, ragga, dancehall, and Afro-samba-reggae are eligible to participate. More information is available at www.beneluxreggaecontest.eu and www.reggaecontest.eu. Registration is free and can be done on the website of the European Reggae Contest. Register Now!
