Review; Collie Buddz – Hybrid

Collie Buddz is ready to release his new Album ‘HYBRID’ on Friday, May 24th, 2019. From the moment the announcement reached my inbox I felt kinda excited. Somehow ever since ‘Come Around’ I feel eager to listen to new Collie Buddz works.

So, immediately after the album preview came in I started listening and found myself in a musical rollercoaster. Collie, on this album, seems to be searching and fusing different genres of Music all sandwiched between some sweet Reggae music. From the dreamy dubby Reggae on ‘The Feeling’ featuring Johnny Cosmic (Stick Figure) to a proper Afrobeat track called ‘Bounce It’ with Stonebwoy, finished with a sauce of Hip Hop.

The album is heavily Hip Hop influenced as can be heard on tracks like the opening track ‘Bank’ featuring B. Young and Russ (or is this allready considered dancehall?), ‘Everything Bless’ featuring Rapper Tech N9ne, the track ‘Callaloo’ with Dizzy Wright.

The Reggae tracks on the album are, of course, Solid reggae tracks that can be played all day, every day. The first reggae track of the album ‘Love & Reggae’ was already released in June of 2018. Right after this track Collie comes in hard again with another Ganja tune called ‘Legal Now’, well that doesn’t need any explaining, does it?

Next up, Reggae-wise is ‘Show Love’, a track that was recently released as a single and, if I get the message right, is about the current state of social media, where people post the craziest sh… but forget to post about love. This track is one of my favorites on the album, next to Love & Reggae.

The final reggae track on the album is ‘Love is Live’, a more uptempo reggae beat. Almost Reggaeton-ish on some parts. The album closes in a slow mood with ‘Time Flies’ featuring Russ (Diemon Crew). I can feel myself ending this album, sitting on a couch feeling Irie and just nod my head to this song.

All together I think Mr. Colin Harper did a good job on this 10 track album. Again, I really enjoyed the fusion of genres on the album, being taken through the different moods.
