How Daniel in the Lions’ Den Came to Life

The inspiration behind Daniel in the Lions’ Den (Daniel Dubois) is as powerful as the song itself. Macka B revealed that the track was born from a unique moment in boxing history, when heavyweight fighter Daniel Dubois used Prince Alla’s original 1970s song Daniel as his ring walk anthem for his world title fight against Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in October. With nearly 100,000 spectators in attendance, the energy in the stadium shifted as the militant reggae track filled the air, creating a historic moment that had everyone talking.

The connection was made through Macka B’s bredrin, Leslie Fairclough, who has been working with Dubois since his fight against Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois’ team had often compared his journey to Daniel in the Lions’ Den, especially as critics doubted his ability to win against AJ. Wanting to inspire the fighter, Macka B sent the original Daniel song to Fairclough, who passed it to Dubois’ father, Stan. The song became a motivating force in the gym and was ultimately chosen for Dubois’ ring walk—leading to a stunning knockout victory over Joshua.

Inspired by the moment, Macka B wasted no time. The day after the fight, he linked with Jazzwad to rebuild the riddim, added his own lyrics, and got Prince Alla to re-sing the track. Dubois’ team embraced the new version, and his father personally requested a music video.
