Groundation releases “Candle Burning” – an analog-fired roots statement

Reggae’s superband Groundation is back with their 11th studio album Candle Burning, released May 23, 2025. Known for their uncompromising musicianship and deep roots foundation, frontman Harrisson Stafford and his band recorded the entire album live onto analog tape at ICP Studios in Brussels. Over the course of ten days, the music was captured straight to tape—raw, direct, and without digital shortcuts—resulting in a warm, honest sound that feels alive from the first note to the last.

Candle Burning brings together not only Groundation’s core energy but also features a powerful lineup of guest appearances from some of the most respected voices in reggae and beyond. Alpha Blondy, Mutabaruka, Thomas Mapfumo, and Mykal Rose each contribute their unique presence, creating moments that bridge continents and generations.

This is not an album trying to fit into current molds. It’s a record that breathes, pulses, and holds space for reflection. Deep arrangements, strong messages, and live instrumentation remind us that Groundation continues to move on its own frequency—unbothered by hype, rooted in the music, and unafraid to evolve.

Out now on all major platforms.
