Jamaican lyricist and multi-instrumentalist Simon “Skygrass” Bowden has released his new album Walking on Water, a 14-track project that marks his first full-length collaboration with New York-based DubShot Records.
Featuring collaborations with Mykal Rose, Turbulence, Lutan Fyah, Jesse Royal, RoryStoneLove and Aspekt Mafia, Walking on Water moves through themes of confidence, courage, love and faith. Skygrass describes the album as a reflection on believing in oneself and in a higher power.
Written and mostly self-produced, the record blends reggae with a rock edge and Skygrass’ sharp, witty lyricism. The first single Lightning drew early attention, with The Source Magazine calling Skygrass “the future of reggae” and comparing his vibe to Damian Marley and Lenny Kravitz.
Known for his energetic live shows and big band sound, Skygrass has performed alongside Steel Pulse, Inner Circle, Mykal Rose, Chronixx and even Maroon 5. Earlier this year, he sold out Brooklyn Bowl with fellow reggae rockers IRIEspect and Steel Pulse.
Speaking about the new album, Skygrass shared: “It’s about faith, it’s about focus, it’s about locking in on the spiritual power that brings us across and allows us to do everything that seems impossible to us, and that’s different for everybody.”
Walking on Water is available now on all major streaming platforms.
