Alpha Blondy releases 11-track ‘Rise’ Album

Alpha Blondy, still one of my favorite artists ever, is back with RISE, his 20th studio album, released on April 11, 2025, 43 years after his first ‘Jah Glory!’ album in 1982. This new project blends roots reggae with modern recording elements while staying true to Alpha Blondy’s unmistakable sound — rich in message, driven by rhythm, and layered with the heavy rock guitar riffs, African instruments and soothing backing vocals that have long been a hallmark of his music.

The album opens with “Cold Fire” featuring Capleton, immediately setting the vibe with fierce energy, a heavy guitar, and an urgent message “Rise Up Africa, the time has come to unite!”. Alpha Blondy jumps straight into his mission, calling for awakening, justice, and universal love. A standout track is “Ayoka”, which first appeared as an anthem for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. Featuring Roseline Layo, Didi B, Soum Bill, and even football icon Didier Drogba, the song brings together different voices and generations in a vibrant celebration of unity and African pride.

Another key collaboration is the single “Je ne suis pas fâché”, featuring Congolese icon Koffi Olomidé. The official video for the track has been out for a while and adds a striking visual layer to the message. Throughout the album, as always, Alpha addresses social and political issues with the conviction and poetic sharpness he’s known for, especially on tracks like “Révolte-toi Africa” and “Corruption”. One of my personal favorites is “Tu Recolteras Ce Que Tu Auras Semé“(You will reap what you have sown.)

With RISE, Alpha Blondy doesn’t just add another chapter to his legacy — he reinforces and doesn’t shy away from his role as a voice of reason and resistance. The album is available now on all streaming platforms: https://baco.lnk.to/rise
