Glen Washington shares spiritual and romantic reflections on new ‘Just Giving Thanks’ album

Out now via Tad’s International RecordJust Giving Thanks is Glen Washington’s latest 14-track album, written entirely by the veteran singer himself and produced by Tad Dawkins Jr. The, on May 30th released, project blends Washington’s three strengths: spiritually grounded roots reggae and heartfelt lovers rock, and his amazing voice.

We have some serious messages to spread, so we have a lot of roots songs here. We have to stick to the roots,” Washington shared when reflecting on the album’s direction. Tracks like Chant Them Down and Oh, To Be Like Him echo that mindset, shaped by his experiences and reflections from the past five years. But it’s not all message music; fans of his softer side will still find familiar ground in songs like Sweet Loving And AffectionLoving You Forever , and Love Will Never Run Away.

The album features musicians who helped shape the sound of modern reggae: Flabba Holt (Roots Radics), Donald “Danny Bassie” Dennis (Firehouse Crew), Franklyn “Bubbla” Waul, Kirk Bennett, and Dean Fraser all lend their talents to the project.

Just Giving Thanks continues Glen Washington’s steady legacy in reggae, which took off in the mid-90s with Brother To Brother and classics like Kindness For Weakness and Rise And Shine. Nearly three decades later, he’s still delivering music with purpose and love. We can only hope to see Glen Washington on stages worldwide again soon, bringing his latest works.
