Released on February 28, 2025, Reggae Music Never Dies is a moving and already historic album from roots legends Israel Vibration. The 10-track project features the final recordings of the late Cecil “Skelly” Spence (who passed away August 26, 2022), alongside fresh tracks from the last standing member, Lascelle “Wiss” Bulgin.

Produced by Aston Barrett Jr., Rafael Costa, Henrique Pesqueira, and Wiss himself, the album introduces a new musical lineup, diverging from their usual Roots Radics collaborations, while still holding true to the group’s roots reggae essence. Contributions from veteran musicians like Dean Fraser and Dwight Pinkney enrich the sound, blending Israel Vibration’s classic harmonies with a warm, modern edge.

When we asked about his role in the project, Aston Barrett Jr. kept it humble:
“Working on this project was an honor. Skelly reached out to me, and that’s how the album came along.”

But there’s more behind those words. In a deeper reflection, Aston shared:
“It was very special. I’ve always been a fan of Israel Vibration. My father (Family Man) always played me the album Unconquered People (1979). Julian Marley was the first person who played it for me, and from there I just started to learn more and more.”

It’s that lineage — from Aston Sr. to Jr., from Skelly and Wiss to the next generation — that makes Reggae Music Never Dies so powerful. This album isn’t just a tribute. It’s a continuation. A reminder that the vibrations never stopped.
