Empress Black Omolo Was Born on the 16th of November 1989 as Rita Achieng Omolo ini Nairobi Kenya. Empress Black Omolo is a descendant of the Luo Tribe(KISUMU).
In her early days she grew up in South B, Nairobi. At the age of 4 she moved to the Netherlands together with her mother(Josephine Okumu), when she turned to the age of 5 Omolo went to music-lessons. She joined the church choir and thats where they discovered her musical talent.
Her mother was is biggest support and took Omolo to a private class, so she could develope herself more. As she grew older she started singing different kinds of music with influence of Erykah Badu , Lauren Hill, Tracy Chapman and many more. Black Omolo’s mother is a Rastawoman who influenced Black Omolo a lot in life.
Black Omolo grew up listening to Alpha Blondy, Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, The congos, Jacob miller and many more reggae artists. As Black Omolo was getting more concious and older she started usng all her knowledge, experience and teachings to express herself trough music.
In 2003, Omolo took a trip to her Motherland Kenya, down in Nairobi she hooked up with one of her relatives and they linked “Ogopa Deejays Studios”, one of the biggest studios in Nairobi. She recorded a track called Kunydanganya wich means “ur cheating” in swahilli together with Mercya Myra.
When Omolo got back to the Netherlands, she started a Group called “Rita Omolo & The Black Makkosa Beauty’s”. In 2004 they did their first big show at the African Delft Festival in the Netherlands. After that many more performances followed. Omolo moved to Amsterdam where she started working with different reggae bands and artists like Jah Storm, Black Marshall, Kenny B, Dredda Youths, 4ward, Gorgan Massive One Root, IYouth and many more. Now she’s working with a band called “Gideon Grounds” and they are on a serious mission to defend the poor youths and innocent. Spreading Jah Works trough words, powers and sound.
