Bob Marley statue to be unveiled in Liverpool on September 9th, 2021

It’s less than a week now before the much anticipated Bob Marley statue will be unveiled in and will launch the official start to the Positive Vibration Festival of Reggae 2021 in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle.

The 7ft tall statue will be eventually be cast in bronze and was commissioned by PV Fest and  sculpted by Andy Edwards whose other works include The Beatles statue on Liverpool’s Waterfront.

This project has already attracted international attention – particularly in Bob Marley’s Jamaica where excitement has been growing ever since the statue was announced.

The organisers of PV Fest commissioned the statue in honour of Bob Marley’s legacy and his impact on millions of people around the world. Marley’s message of unity, love and compassion is one of universal importance.

After a turbulent and difficult year for everyone, divisiveness has come to define a lot of public discourse. It was for this reason that Positive Vibration Festival came up with the idea for a Bob Marley statue. The power of Bob Marley’s message of hope is much needed, and the festival wanted to pay tribute to that and hopefully inspire people.

This will also mark the return of PV Fest and will serve as a celebration of the return of live music and promises to be one of the highlights of Liverpool’s cultural calendar.

Thursday 9th September will see the unveiling of the Bob Marley statue on the Baltic Creative Plinth situated at Jamaica Street in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. This event will mark the opening of the Art of Reggae Exhibition at 92 Degrees Coffee 7pm and the launch of PV Fest 2021.

The unveiling is scheduled for 7:30pm and will be accompanied by a ceremony conducted by Liverpool artist, Levi Tafari who will reflect on his experiences with Bob Marley’s work, meeting him and being inspired by him. Levi will perform one of his poems in tribute to the occasion.

This statue is a testament to the hard work of many people and will be an iconic landmark for many years to come.
