Fantan Mojah, superstar in Surinam

Fantan Mojah has attained legendary status in the country of Suriname in only a few short years. His songs, Hail the King and Mama Hungry have been big sellers in the country and are anthems in this South American country of 490,000 people.

“The first time I went to Suriname to perform, mi did surprise, 8000 people and then the next time was 15,000, and when mi arrive at the airport, mi see over 30 reporters and cameramen and radio station people. Mi shock, and then the morning after the show, whole heap more come fi interview me at the hotel, it was crazy. Dem love me over there and mi love Suriname, the people dem call me ‘The Man with the Bag pon him Back’,” he told media.

“Suriname ah mi place, and I may be going back there this Summer.”

Suriname is the smallest sovereign state in South America. Located in the northern part of South America, it has an estimated population of approximately 490,000, most of whom live on the country’s north coast, where the capital Paramaribo is located.
