“Marley” Movie set for release

The rumors that spread over the internet, after an interview with Chris Blackwell, seem to be true. This summer a new Bob Marley Movie will finaly be released. Producers confirmed that Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin McDonald (director of documentaries like One Day In September and Touching the Void and the movie The Last King of Scotland) is working on a new documentary about  the Reggae Legend. The Documentary, simply called, “Marley” will reveal more of the Marley Magic that we all know so well. What makes this documentary extra special is the participation of the Marley Family . Earlier attempts to make a “Marley Movie” have already been made by e.g. Martin Scorsese and Jonathan Demme. ( full list of attempts can be read here). Filming will take place in Ghana, Japan and the UK, in addition to Jamaica and the States.

“What made Bob tick is probably unanswerable but viewers will certainly feel that they know him a little better after seeing our documentary. I am grateful to the Marley family for entrusting me with their heritage,” Macdonald said in a statement.

The movie will examine the musical creative life of the Legend by using interviewings of many of the figures around him at that time as well as using the archival material. As one of the producers from Tuff Gong Pictures, Shangri-La Entertainment and Cowboy Films stated “the life, legacy and global impact of a true legend.” The film be another one of the releases this year to mark the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s death in 1981.

Let’s hope that Macdonalds attempt will be a good one, so that we’re not still talking about it in another 2 year, and that this documentary will be different from ones allready made like “Catch A Fire”.
