Following the release of their debut EP ‘Leave Me Out’ on 22nd September, London-based party-reggae collective Shanty announce their 8-date UK tour.
Already championed by the likes of reggae don David Rodigan of BBC Radio 1Xtra, Louder Than War and M Magazine, the seven-piece now celebrate the release of their 4-track debut with a series of regional dates. Beginning at Manchester’s kooky Antwerp Mansion, a venue in the midst of being transformed from a derelict Victorian homestead into a thriving haven for the arts, the tour will move to the award-winning Komedia in Brighton for its second night.
A secret show will take place on October 11th, before the collective take to the stage at Plymouth’s Tiki Bar and Grill on the 16th and The Unicorn in Porthtowan, Cornwall on the 17th. The eve of the 18th will see Shanty perform at Bristol vanguard venue, Mr Wolf’s, followed by a show at The Donkey in Leicester on the 24th. The tour will culminate in a performance at London’s raucous Hootananny in Brixton on October 25th.
Drawing inspiration from the genres of soul, electronic and hip-hop, all embedded in a signature sound characterized by stomping bass and intricate horn-lines, the eclectic outfit recorded their EP at the infamous Sawmills studio in Cornwall, known for hosting the likes of Oasis, The Verve, Supergrass and The Stone Roses.
Hailing from North-West London, Shanty’s modern twist on classic roots reggae has seen them appear at prestigious UK music festivals including Boomtown Fair, Leopallooza, Secret Garden Party and Glastonbury. They’ve shared the stage with genre-mates The Skints, Prince Fatty and Neville Staple of The Specials, who they kicked off their 2013 tour supporting. The boys have also been championed by Gary Crowley, who playlisted them on his BBC London show as part of BBC Introducing.
With a penchant for crafting soulful grooves and infectious vocal hooks, Shanty look set to revive the sounds of summer in a tour that promises plenty of party vibes.
