Lee Perry meets E.R.M on 'Humanicity'

Lee Perry meets E.R.M.

A real new album from Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is long overdue… Well, too long. And then,  there was E.R.M., a beautiful story of friendship, wild dream and determination. Some riddim later, Lee Perry meets E.R.M. and the beautiful story could begin.

Once upon a time…

E.R.M., Olivier Gangloff aka Piment / Electric Rabbit – drummer for nearly 20 years, mmulti-instrumentalist and talented arranger and sound engineer. Romain Ferrey aka EasyMode – sound engineer and dub man. Together, in their recording studio in Strasbourg, eastern France, they simply created an album just for their idol. 10 riddims, totally traditional with a hint of modernity to remind everyone that Lee Perry still got his magic touch and he has not said its last word.

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, known as «Father of Reggae», initiator and visionary, discovered Bob Marley and many other figures of Jamaican reggae since the 1950’s. Now 76, he has invested heavily in this album which enables to revive the heyday of the Black Ark Studio. The meeting with Piment and EasyMode was symbiotic… During the recording in his studio, Lee Perry improvised all the lyrics for the 10 songs. He sang with the aggressiveness of the early days, the melancholy of the difficult time, the humor of a rich and eventful life.

This album is emotional and intense.

Finally, this unlikely meeting produced an album of depth, humanistic and contemporary, hence the evocative title HUMANICITY. The music and text found their true places where the listeners can surely experience many emotions. Lee Perry is himself and liberated. The music is sharpened and everyone is ready for the stage. The recording and mixing was done by E.R.M., and mastered by Jay Franco (Studio Sterling Sound / New York). This album feels fresh, burst with envy, as if Lee Perry is just waiting for it to play the Upsetter again.
