Blvk H3ro (pronounced Black Hero) is a 26-year-old Jamaican singer-songwriter hailing from the historic community of Waterford, just outside the capital city of Kingston. This eclectic artist first started playing drums at age 8, and by 13 was singing in the local church choir. A strong religious upbringing had significant influence on the singer and throughout his early life the church, and especially its music, played a pivotal role in his artistic development. His rebellious nature led him to experiment with new and divergent sounds and eventually this brave quest landed him on stage performing in talent shows and concerts at school, and it was there at Excelsior High that the signs of
the artist now called Blvk H3ro first began to emerge.
Beginning his recording career in 2012 he first worked with the independent label MB Productions, securing collaborations with international artists in Europe including Jasoul and the rappers Full House. During this time of development Blvk H3ro released a slew of popular singles in the Jamaican underground music scene that quickly caught the attention of Major Lazer who invited him to submit a remix of their international hit ‘Get Free’. His interpretation of the song simply called ‘My Story’ built an impressive buzz after securing official endorsement from the group.
2017 saw the release of his first EP entitled “THC: The Herb Connoisseur,” premiering on 4/20 with the lead single ‘H3rb’ a playful herbalist’s anthem receiving considerable attention on social media and popular playlists. During this time the Reggae Soul Band was formed and a small production team was assembled to begin work on what was envisioned as his debut album. That summer Blvk H3ro & Reggae Soul Band also embarked on their first major European tour where they played most notably at the prestigious Reggae Jam Festival in Germany and the Reggae Geel Festival in Belgium.
The time fast approaches to unveil Blvk H3ro’s first full-length album “The Immortal Steppa” a 14-track project released in partnership with New York City based DubShot Records, renowned for being the premiere crossover label, handling independent releases for artistes like Sean Paul, Inner Circle, Cham and a host of other successful acts in Reggae and Dancehall. The hotly-anticipated album features some sounds already familiar to his fans but also delivers a host of new and fresh sounds ranging from classic to futuristic. Blvk H3ro is now poised to take his place in the musical movement known in many circles as the ‘Reggae Revival’, following in the success of his contemporaries including Grammy Award nominees Chronixx and Protojé.
