The Reggae Music industry is brimming with rising Lions putting out works of the Highest degree. No room for error or inconsistency in this time. RAPHA PICO has been firmly on the Roots corner since 2007; steadily building his credentials with natural progression. Since winning last year’s BENELUX REGGAE CONTEST with amazing grace, this Amsterdam based Rasta messenger has wasted no time creating Royal works with clearview vision and an amazing level of consistency and maturity. Rapha’s PICO PRODUCTIONS with the solid collaboration of BOXLUNCH PRODUCTIONS are proud to present his latest single, “Take A Look”. A song that certainly raises the bar of conscious Roots Reggae Music.

It’s essential to discuss the musical journey of this multi talented young man who exudes wisdom and talent well beyond his years. Born in 1989 to Suriname/Martinique parents, the musical vibes are in his genes. His father, Djeynah Delbety, was the frontman for the legendary Roots band REVELATION TIME. After becoming well versed in musical theory from an early stage, he cut teeth with several Surinamese bands. In 2009, he joined REBELJAM as backup singer. The following year, he joined ROOTS CONTROLAHZ and linked with SMILEY as backup singer. Besides honing his vocal skills, these crucial links gave him the blessings to share the stage with the likes of Julian Marley, Romain Virgo, Popcaan, Vivian Jones and many more. Rapha decided to focus on a solo career in 2012; a decision that has served him verily so

Fast forward to 2014. Rapha released his debut EP, “ROOTS”, a critically acclaimed set recorded at Tuff Gong that featured the mastery of Roland McDermott and a roll call of JA’s premier musicians. This Royal offering was released on his label, PICO PRODUCTIONS. With his tight band, THE ROOTS ROCKERS, he won the BENELUX REGGAE CONTEST with an amazing and resonating performance. At this time, he triumphed with his “ROOTS EP Tour”; a 30 show tour that allowed him to a wider audience with massive presence at such venues as Reggae Geel. This is a man who truly has shined at other celebrations as Reggaejam. No small feat to rise and shine at these truly historic events; that’s exactly what he has done and continues to do. In July, he released “Caribbean Woman”, a massive collaboration with acclaimed producer MICHAEL HOWELL(BOXLUNCH PRODUCTIONS). Rapha stormed back again at the end of the year with “I’m A Dread”, a powerful anthem from Suriname based DREDDA RECORDS.

“TAKE A LOOK” is a culmination of true experience and determination indeed. Another PICO PRODUCTION in collaboration with BOXLUNCH, a link that proves to have the right chemistry. He voiced the track at his PICO STUDIO with riddim recorded at Tuff Gong. Rapha has made the conscious decision to create his own studio and label. This man possesses a truly golden voice that can be compared to Tabby”Mighty Diamonds”Shaw but has a unique and original delivery all his own. This song is lyrically potent with a true sense of urgency and observation. A showcase of his songwriting abilities and maturity as a true Roots artiste. A definitive elevation in the forwardness of RAPHA PICO…2015 promises to be another productive year with a slew of conscious works slated to keep the integrity of King’s Music alive.
