The Return (Country Man)- Yaksta, TrackStarr

From the ‘Fe Fi Foe’– start of “The Return,” Yaksta chops through the Abudahbi Riddimusic with urgency, truth and social commentary, and he is not holding back in his lyrics. His observations on what is happening on the island and in the world are sharp and spot-on, and what stands out is that Yaksta doesn’t shy away from the more delicate social issues, something that has become somewhat rare in much of today’s music. This may not be roots music in the traditional sense, but it carries that same rebellious spirit music should have, raising issues and bringing them to the people. Add to that the creative energy he brings from the first beat, and this one, again, goes hard.

TrackStarr delivered a riddim here that could easily stand beside the currently hard-hitting WYFL Riddim, and Yaksta uses it to its full potential. The single also builds anticipation for Yaksta’s upcoming album ‘The Microphone Saved Me’, which we are very much looking forward to. If “The Return” sets the tone, there is plenty of reason to pay attention. I am sure there will be a track for everyone!
