Wrapped Up – Vassell Meka

Vassell Meka is a recording artist, producer, and musician born in Kingston, Jamaica currently based in the USA. Founder of “Legacy Mekas Muzik” where he enjoys creating and producing music for himself and others. Legacy Mekas Muzik, an independent label started by Vassell Meka in 2018. The record label was created mainly for upcoming artists, producers, songwriters and musicians to get their start in the music space. Legacy Mekas Muzik is steadily making a name for themselves as the newest and freshest sound to the reggae genre but giving it a world sound to reach all corners of the globe.

Vassell Meka studied music education at the Edna Manly College of the visual and performing arts. Afterwards, he went on to continuing studying music education and business at Mico University. After teaching music education at the secondary and primary levels in Jamaica, he moved to the States where he currently works in the special education field and while pursuing his music career. While he has many talents, he finds joy in working with kids who are affected by various social and emotional disorders.

As a former drummer/percussionist, Meka has performed in Jamaica and North America for a wide variety of artists. Chiliguys, New Awtical Band, Minori, and Caleb Hart are some of the amazing groups/artists he collaborated with his production skills under his label imprint. Meka had played a significant role in the creation of the Chiliguys and also the success of their debut album “Love,Papa” went number #1 on the US reggae charts.

Legacy Mekas Muzik, his record label, hit #1 on the US reggae iTunes chart with a song called “Seeds” by the Chiliguys as well as “Children” by the Chiliguys hit #2. Vassell Meka’s debut album will no doubt change the dynamic of reggae music globally.
