The Reason – While the recorded death rates fortunately has been contained in Jamaica, the fallout of quarantine still persists despite the Government’s best efforts. The COVID-19 crisis has created unique challenges that have led to job losses and school closures which in turn directly aggravates food insecurity and impacts already vulnerable communities. As a developing country, unemployment benefits, e-learning options and stimulus packages are simply not a possibility. Despite the strong efforts by the government, courageous healthcare workers and resilient citizens, Jamaica remains in need of external support for the population, especially vulnerable groups.

President of the AFJ said, “AFJ’s Virtual Benefit Concert #FriendsUniteForJA is a call to action for those who love Jamaica to help the most vulnerable communities on the island impacted by COVID-19. The work of the AFJ is always focused on supporting the people of Jamaica and we ask all who are Friends of Jamaica to join us this Sunday and to donate what they can.” Executive Director of the AFJ said, “COVID-19 has affected the livelihood of many across Jamaica and is going to require collaborative effort if the country is to restore its standing. We are coming together as Jamaicans and Friends of Jamaica in a spirit of Unity and Solidarity.” #FriendsUniteForJA is a new format executed by the AFJ and is part of the organization’s annual fundraising to support the under represented and vulnerable in Jamaica.
