About Dennis Walks:
Dennis Walks, born Dennis Vassell on May 25, 1947, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine Parish, Jamaica, is a veteran reggae singer renowned for his contributions to the genre since the early 1960s. He began his recording career in 1963 with Duke Reid at Treasure Isle and gained prominence in the late 1960s through collaborations with producer Harry Mudie, resulting in hits like “The Drifter” and “Heart Don’t Leap.” These tracks became foundational in reggae, with “The Drifter” rhythm being reinterpreted by numerous artists over the years. Walks’ debut album, Meet Dennis Walks, was released in 1976 on the Moodisc label, compiling several of his earlier successes. Throughout his career, he also worked with producers such as Joe Gibbs, Bunny Lee, and Prince Jazzbo, and continued to release music into the 1980s and beyond, including the 2004 album Gwanee Gwanee recorded with Mafia & Fluxy. Known for his soulful vocals and roots reggae style, Dennis Walks remains a respected figure in Jamaican music history.
